Dr. Timothy D. Bowman is currently a post-doctoral researcher at the Research Unit for the Sociology of Education (RUSE) at the University of Turku, Finland, where he is utilizing his theoretical, methodological, and technical skillsets to investigate and create an open source web application for Finnish researchers to examine their scholarly output in terms of citation and altmetric counts.
Prior to joining the research team at RUSE, Bowman was a research professional in the Department of Library and Information Science at the Université de Montreal (UM), Quebec, Canada (March 2014 – June 2015), and a research assistant in the Department of Information and Library Science at Indiana University (IU), Bloomington, U.S. (September 2012 – March 2014). At UM he was funded by both the SLOAN foundation and the Canada Research Chair to investigate scholarly communication and altmetrics and worked closely with Dr. Vincent Larivière and Dr. Stefanie Haustein investigating aspects of altmetrics, scientometrics, and bibliometrics. While at IU he worked with Dr. Cassidy R. Sugimoto, Dr Staša Milojevic, and Dr. Ying Ding on an award-winning Digging Into Data project that included examining aspects of scholarly communication, impression management, and self-presentation within social media environments.
His research interests include altmetrics, framing, impression management, open science, scholarly communication, self-presentation, and social informatics. With regards to these topics, Bowman has published over 20 peer-reviewed articles and conference proceedings, has been invited to give guest lectures and participate on panels, and to review scientific works.
